Could Your Dog Have Glaucoma?

According to Dr Lopez of Villa Blanca any of the following symptoms in one or both eyes, even if the symptoms are temporary, can indicate glaucoma:
- glassiness to eye
- redness in white part of the eye
- cloudiness of the eye
- excessive tearing ( weeping)
- sensitivity to light
- green or yellow eye discharge
- bluish cast to the eye
- dilated pupil
- desire to excessive sleeping
- irritability
- behaviour that indicates pain ( hiding under the bed, acting frightened, avoiding being petted on the head)
- behaviour indicating vision impairment ( bumping into things)
- enlarged and bulging eyeball ( late stage)
Don't ignore mere behaviour la signs, take any and all symptoms seriously and seek veterinary medical attention.

Breeds At-Risk

Research suggests the possibility of inherited glaucoma in the following breeds:
Alaskan Malamute
Akita
Basset Hound
Beagle
Bouvier de Flandres
Brittany
Chow Chow
Great Dane
Miniature and Toy Poodles
Norwegian Elkhound
Petit Basset griffon Vendeen
Retriever ( Golden and flat coated)
Samoyed
Shar-Pei
Siberian Husky
Spaniels ( Cocker, English Cocker, Welsh Springer)
Terriers ( Sealhym, Smooth Fox, Standard Manchester)
Welsh Corgi
